GETTING TO KNOW
Adam Ochoa, CPA

Hometown: I was born at General Hospital in East Los Angeles and grew up in Cudahy. After high school, I joined the U.S. Army for six years with tours in South Carolina, Georgia, Germany, Texas, and Iraq.
City of residence: I moved to the Coachella Valley in 1997 and have lived in Cathedral City since.
Family: My two wonderful children, Miles, age 7 and Maya, age 4.
Favorite weekend activity: I enjoy biking, working out, golfing, reading, and taking trips with my kids and spending time with friends.
Books on nightstand: “Way of the Peaceful Warrior” by Dan Millman; “The Wisdom of Crowds” by James Surowiecki.
Favorite meal: “You can never beat mom’s cooking. Any meal with friends and family is a good meal.”

Why he’s involved in the community: Being part of a community not only feels good; it helps shape who we are and provides us with direction in life. There’s nothing like the thrill of lending a hand. There are many worthy causes that would greatly benefit from a few hours of your time. And the bottom line is, helping is fun! You always come across other opportunities - through the people you meet, the skills you learn and the experiences you have - while you’re helping others and enjoying yourself.
Why he loves being a CPA: Being a CPA gives you the chance to make an impact on the business practices of individuals and businesses of all sizes. The CPA license carries enormous weight in business and financial circles. You can effect change to a Fortune 500 business or a struggling non-profit.
Best advice for businesses: Focus on the customer, gathering feedback and input from them on a regular basis; spend money wisely, but don’t be afraid to spend money for the benefit of the organization; and, lastly, be more externally-driven (customer) rather than internally- driven (operations).
